Spadefoot Toad
The spadefoot toad is basically a chunky little lump with a penchant for jumping and a face that looks like it got stuck in a mud puddle. It has this weird little shovel thing on its foot that helps it dig into the ground—because why wouldn’t you want to bury yourself like a potato? It comes in colors that can only be described as “nature’s leftovers,” mostly browns and greens that help it blend in with dirt and rocks. Instead of croaking like a dignified amphibian, it makes bizarre noises that might remind you of a rusty hinge. When it rains, it pops out of its underground lair like a confused mole, ready to chow down on bugs and hop around like it owns the place. Think of it as Mother Nature's cross between a toad and a garden spade, but with way less elegance.
